Hi! I have an appointment At the Thai Consulate in Vientiane on Friday. .(couldn't get an appointment on Thursday as I wanted, so now I'll have a 5-6 night stay in Vientiane). On the website it says I should turn up 30 minutes early even though no time slot has been allocated. Usually, I would have just turned up anytime in the morning after crossing the border.

Do you think I'll be OK to turn up anytime as I did in the past or should I make sure I'm there at around 8am before the consulate opens?

TLDR : Answer Summary
It is recommended to arrive at the Thai Consulate in Vientiane at least 30 minutes early, as indicated on their website. Previous experiences suggest that appointments may be managed by number calls, meaning if you arrive late, you may miss your turn regardless of prior informal practices of arriving at any time.

Stay there 08:30am. They will call by numbers, if you not there than they do not care if you turn up at 10:30am.It is not for convenience....

If the website says show up 30 minutes early I'd say follow their recommendation. Face it, it's not like you're doing anything else in Vientiane other than getting a visa for thailand..
