Is there a fee to exit Laos when crossing the friendship bridge on public bus from Vientiane to Udon Thani? I am going from Vientiane to Udon Thani via the public bus. I will be crossing around 5pm. I have my Thai visa. I want to know if there are any additional fees at the border crossing, and if so, what they are. Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When crossing the Friendship Bridge from Vientiane, Laos to Udon Thani, Thailand by public bus, there is a nominal fee to exit Laos. The fee is approximately 11,000 kip (around 50 baht) and is charged on the Laos side. Travelers can pay this fee in baht, with change given in baht as well. Several commenters confirmed that this fee is standard, although some have crossed multiple times without being charged.
So just to update, there was a fee to LEAVE Laos, it was like 11 or 12 thousand kip, or 50 baht. this was charged on the Laos side. If you pay in baht, they give change in baht, which is a good thing. I just gave them a hundred baht note... wouldn't count on them changing a 1000. ALso there are money change places there. I passed through at about 530pm.
yeah it's different when you go buy car (they still have to pay, but it's presumably bundled into your fare). By bus you have to get off the bus and pay 11k kip
Taxi. I pay 20 baht when crossing but I figured that was a bit of "grease" for jumping the queue and using the private car booth. I also pay it to the immigration officer entering Thailand not leaving Laos so maybe taking a taxi avoids the nominal charge for Laos.
Yes, it's standard for everyone. When coming from Vientiane, get off the bus and go to the customs window. Queue up, pay the fee (the prices are listed on the window, in English). They give you a little card. Keep hold of it. Then proceed to immigration and stamp out of Laos. Put the card in the little barrier thing. Get back on the bus, you're out of Laos. It's really simple. I can't remember exactly how much the customs fee is but its such a small amount that it's not worth remembering!
