Is the JamJang app safe to use for tourists in Thailand?

I have heard of a new app called JamJang (or Jam Jang?) which allows tourists to use PromptPay QR codes without a Thai bank account. The app sounds perfect in theory but I am hesitant to download it because it's only 3 months old and there is close to zero information on it. It just seems a bit... dodgy. Has anyone here used JamJang?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The JamJang app allows tourists to use PromptPay QR codes without needing a Thai bank account. However, users express concerns over its credibility due to its short existence and lack of reliable information. Initial comments indicate that the app might look sketchy, though it's noted that Apple vetting could lend some legitimacy. Later comments suggest that some users have found it functional, indicating mixed opinions on its trustworthiness.

So, any updates on this app?? I just came across this app today and it sounds like it works fine from the people using it. No Thai bank account needed!

I would be interested too. I’m a bit … concerned about this app. I hope it works. When you say people are using it, do you mean from the reviews you read online or you actually know of people that use the app?

someone posted about it on Reddit 🤷‍♂️

yeah just a couple YouTubers, so nobody I know personally. I wanted to do a search in these facebook groups for people who have posted about this app. You were like the only one who’s posted about it and that was months ago. 😬

but if the app are approve by APPLE mostlikly it will not a scam app... because apple developer will run checks on the app before they launch on apple store..so if anything happen, apple will take responsibility for the app

I don't think Apple approving an app is necessarily a guarantee that it's not a scam.

I agree. I truly want to see this app succeed… though I won’t be an early adopter 😃

The email address and everything about it looks suspicious. Thanks for giving it a go. Think I'll wait on the sidelines a few months and observe whether it morphs into something more professional. Thanks again 👍

pretty sure I had to submit my passport for the Laos app that allows their QR payment without a bank account

in general no problem I guess the Laos app doesn’t look that sketchy like this app.. registered with an Australian number expired privacy policy in India and the copyright till 2023 🙃

it's the first I've ever heard of this app which is a red flag to me. If it does what it says, it should be very popular.

That's right - I would be very excited if this app does what it says it does. But yes, too many red flags 🚩 at the moment. I'll keep an eye on its progress.
