First questions

Applying for marriage visa next year

Been married 10 years

Can do the income requirements, £1,000 a month

In group members experience is it better through an agent or do it yourself ?

I under stand that you can suspend the Visa and get a re -entry permit , does this expire when the marriage visa expires ?

We live in Bangkok

Thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
Peter is planning to apply for a marriage visa in Thailand next year, having been married for 10 years and meeting the income requirement of £1,000 a month. He seeks advice on whether to use an agent for this process or to handle it independently. Additionally, he has questions about the suspension of the visa and the validity of a re-entry permit in relation to the marriage visa's expiration. Commenters provide insights about financial requirements for the visa, the validity of re-entry permits, and the process of documentation for visa applications.

It's OK to do your self but a lot of paperwork may have to go to immigration more than 1 time but not realy a problem I have been doing a marriage visa for 4 years now

thank you

Don’t mind the paperwork , Wife was an office manager in Thailand for a large coffee company , now retired

I’m aware that at Bangkok immigration we will have to ‘dot all the Is and cross all the Ts ‘

But as we live in Bangkok we can do as many visits as necessary

My issue with using an agent is that if you are not successful any fee is non refundable

Also I’m averse to leaving 400,000BHT in a Thai bank account at 1% when I can get 6%+ in UK bank

Where as if we DIY we can provide additional information, as required ,to qualify for Marriage Visa

I do understand all cases are slightly different

0 bht for 2 people being in the bank for 2 or 3 months don't see any advantages in using an agency

Do you have a Thai bank account yet? If not think about getting your Non-O (marriage) Visa before travelling as that will make the process of getting one easier. Also, if you were not married in Thailad, your marriage certificate needs to be recognised there to get a Visa Extension (or initial Visa) so check your local Thai Embassy/Consulate website to see the requirements.

yes had one for over 5 years married in Thailand with all registration and translations done

difficult to check anything

at Thai Embassy in UK as they don’t answer the phone or e mail just do Visa on line

I’m not in Thailand full time , have had multi entry visas to visit in the past , six months at a time every year

Thank you for reply

To get the “marriage” Non O visa in Thailand you would need to have 400,000 baht in a Thai bank account in your name only. For subsequent yearly extensions you can use the 40,000 baht of international transfers every month (assuming you are not working here an earning that amount per month).

A re-entry permit does not “suspend” the visa. It just allows you to re-enter and stay until the current “allowed to stay” stamp you already have.

If that date is a year from now then it’s valid for a year. If that date is 20 days from now then it’s valid for 20 days.

thank you

I will probably apply in UK as I’m not here full time, currently doing April -November in U K then November - April, also retired

I can provide proof of pension entitlement with Bank Statements and letters from Department of Work & Pensions as I under stand that UK Embassy in Thailand no longer do this service

my initial non o spouse application in Finland was good when I show 15.000€ in bank account to Thai embassyin Helsinki. Do you know will UK embassy here in Thailand give you income affidavit so you could use your monthly income to extension?

@Pertti ************
British Embassy doesnt give income affidavits.

To get the initial visa in the UK then bank statements or pension proof will probably work - check their website for requirements.

To get the extensions in Thailand then you’ll need the cash in a Thai bank account. UK statements or pension documents would be irrelevant.
