For all of you who make booking to hotel. I see that most hotels give you a form to fill your credit card information for authorization payment. I warn you, not to do that !. Verybwrong and serious bad way !. This is not the way how to pay with credit card. It is very sensitive data providing your cvc and credit card number.

I dont't know if they are stupid or pretend to be stupid to make the process like this. And you even required to send the form via email to their email address. Do you know how dangerous it could be ? The email can be leaked and all staf who works in the hotel cam get your data amd can do online shopping with that !

Never never do that ! Your credit card company will not responsible in case something bad happen to you if your provide the credit card information that way.

Hotel must send you a secure ssh link to process the payment, and there you can type the data. Just like online shopping !.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion highlights concerns about the safety of providing credit card information to hotels, particularly when asked to fill out forms and send sensitive data via email. The original post warns against this practice, emphasizing the potential risks such as data leaks and unauthorized transactions. Several comments affirm this caution, suggesting alternative payment methods, such as using secure links or paying directly to the hotel’s bank account. The consensus advocates for heightened security when handling credit card transactions in hotel bookings.

. They will send you secured link you can pay via credit card online. And only require 5,000 baht deposit.

If I’m going to be that paranoid then I’d rather just not travel, I have a smaller card that I use primarily for travel that is very limited and I keep a sharp eye on.

In my experience most hotels when asked will supply a one off secure link to pay.

Agreed, my hotel asked for this and I point blank refused. I then paid to directly to their bank account and provided the payment reference.

Then why should I trust someone I don't know

Did you ever order stuff over phone with card details? Anyways I agree there is safer ways of doing things but they are not out to scim you. They will fleece you with other costs and fees don't worry...

Phil Jones , but what happen with you might not always happen to other people. Do you know how many banks institution we have in this world ? How many type of credit cards exist ? And do you think every bank call their customer for every transaction ? How many security systems of different cards ?. Its not smart to generalize what you experience to solve every possible fraud problem ! 😄

Yeah its sketchy, I ended up just sending the front desk a picture of my card because the process was too complicated and I would have given the same information anyway.

My bank flags all suspicious activity and requires my approval , if someone tries to use my card illegally from overseas it will be flaged.

Is it possible to still scam me, yes, but so can the waiter or any store clerk that runs your card.
