"everything else": car rental and getting from BKK to Krabi directly from ASQ without driver

Hi! I am wondering if it would be possible/relatively hassle free to rent a car and travel down to the south where I will be staying for longer directly without renting a driver through a transfer service... Do I need some certificate to be crossing the provinces as a private person? I would come out of ASQ with a negative test then anyway. Would that be enough? I intend to go in one ride and not stay for a night somewhere. TIA!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry discusses the feasibility of renting a car to travel from Bangkok to Krabi after completing Alternative State Quarantine (ASQ). The person is concerned about needing a certificate for crossing provinces as a private individual despite having a negative COVID-19 test. Comments suggest that traveling by car might be hassle-free, particularly if one can provide documentation from the ASQ, and others mention that flying could be a cheaper and quicker alternative. However, the need for proof of travel at provincial borders remains a concern, especially for those traveling with pets.

Most big brand name car rental agencies have airport to airport drop off. Of course you could arrange a long term rental. But watch out for restrictions in distance from the origin. Many agencies put GPS devices in their cars to monitor where the car is.

Thanks for your answers! We are travelling with a dog and I want to avoid flying again because of that. My concern was that regarding the rule to leave ASQ and then directly travel to your destination there might be control on the province borders where it might get problems if I cannot officially "prove" that we travel directly to the destination.

if you are staying in a hotel or a resort and not going into a village it is easier. If you you are stopped, you might be asked where you are going but you will have documents from your ASQ. Should be ok.

It shouldn't be any problem but flying is a lot Cheaper and quicker

Everyone worries about quarantining but I can tell you from direct experience driving all over Thailand that.... it’s not even remotely a problem whether you’re supposed to self quarantine as the rule or not. I doubt most people are even SQ and I can’t imagine how “they” would know or not know anyway— 🤷🏾‍♂️ However, if you change your mind about driving yourself.... Hope this helps 🍀
