TLDR : Answer Summary
The requirement for a 90-day report with the Covid Extension visa at MTT seems uncertain. While some users suggest confirming this during your extension appointment, others indicate that applying for the extension may fulfill the reporting requirement. However, experiences can vary significantly, so caution is advised.

From what is written on the Thai immigration website applying and getting the extension counts as doing the 90 day report, but like everything here your results WILL VARY.

It's NOT every extension that counts as starting the 90 day clock it's the FIRST extension you get.

oh okay thanks. What if you switch visa types like going from a basic tourist extension to a covid extension, would that "reset" the 90 days?

nope, it wouldn't and you aren't switching any visa types. you still entered the country ON the tourist visa entry all you are doing is taking advantage of the covid extensions that are tracked back to the original entry stamp (the tourist visa entry) SO whether you need to do a 90 day report or not is between you and the immigration office you deal with

when you go for the next covid extension at MTT ask them when you get the extension if you have to do 90 day reporting. It's so random and so hit or miss that's about all you can do. I certainly wouldn't drop everything and run out to MTT just to see if you need to file one or not. There's a good chance IF you needed to file one you're going to get the 2000baht fine anyway, so just check on it when you get your next extension
