TLDR : Answer Summary
The 60-day Thai tourist visa is not a multiple entry visa; it is a single entry visa. However, there is a multiple entry tourist visa (METV) that allows for multiple entries within a 6-month period, providing a potential total stay of up to 8.5 to 9 months when re-entering at the right intervals.

They exist in two versions: single and multiple. Both give you 60 days which you can extend to 90. The only difference beside the plurality of entries is that the METV is valid for 6 months. With that, and by re-entering at the right times, you can get up to 8.5 - 9 months stay on that visa.

No just thinking about a trip to Vietnam and back to Thailand within the 60 days.

METV is usually priced about 5x that of a single entry visa.

yes and hence not so viable if you qualify for exemption, unless you plan to exploit the opportunity to go well beyond 6 months.

No. It’s a single entry visa.
