TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses various options for making a visa run from Chiang Mai to Vientiane. Recommendations include using AYA van services that provide direct transport to the Embassy in Vientiane, and options like taking a flight from Chiang Mai to Udon Thani followed by a minivan to the border. Users also mention overnight buses to Nong Khai and staying overnight in Udon for convenience. Insights about pricing and experiences highlight the ease of the process with AYA, although some express concerns over the bus journey comfort.
Thanks Tod! Shuttle is listed as free. I'm wondering how much is their service. I assume they take care of ensuring people get into queues, get paperwork, etc.
I have used AYA van from CM .. Delivers you to Embassy in Vientiane .. And picks you up next day back to CM .. Easy, if slightly uncomfortable, sitting up, but saves heaps of hassle, and you are looked after all the way ..
You can also take the overnight bus to Nong Khai, which is the town immediately on the border. AYA also offers a direct service from CM to the consulate in Vientiane. The return trip begins from their office in Nong Khai.
