Hi all, I'm planning to do 2 trips to Thailand later this year being November to December for 6 weeks and then return in early January till early April. I have asked the UK Thailand embassy and they have told me to get a METV - Multi Entry Tourist Visa and the guidance note states the following shuttle h I don't understand. Can any body help me as I'm unsure when to complete the application form and what dates I should put on it..

The validity of the METV is 6 months from the issue which means you must enter before the ‘Enter Before’ date shown. The entry before the date is important because the last possible entrance for 60 days has to be used when entering the day before the end before the date. Two of the three 60 day exit stamps could possibly be extended for 30 days at a Thai immigration office although your last entry must be no later than the ‘Enter Before’ date.

Cheers in advance

You have been advised properly by the Embassy!

For your plans, the 6-months multi entry Tourist Visa is the best choice. The visa is valid for unlimited entries within a period of six months after the date of issue.

Before you take the risk that a second visa-exempt entry might be refused because it will happen too closely dated after your first stay, it is always advised to secure a guarantee by using the METV. On a real visa, your entries will be accepted without any worries and without any Immigration official questioning your repeated stays.

Apply for the METV 3 weeks before your planned departure. The processing embassy or consulate will take care to issue the visa as close as possible to your departure, so you don’t lose too many days of the visa validity.

The METV fits in perfectly for an entry, let’s assume your first entry is on the 15th of November. Upon re-entering in early January, let’s say you enter January 10th. You will get stamped in for 60 days until March 9th. You visit Immigration and buy a 30-days extension, taking you to April 8th.

In case your planned return is by the last week of April, then you better do a border run before March 9th - and avoid the 30-days extension.

Upon re-entering let’s say you re-enter on March 10th, you will get stamped in for another 60 days, carrying you until June 9th. And BINGO - everything went smoothly

1st trip go on a visa exempt

2nd trip, go on a visa exempt and extend for 1 month at immigration in Thailand. As long as your total stay is no longer than 90 days

So if you arrive Jan 1, there are 31 days in January, then 28 in Feb totalling 59. March has 30 days so you will need to leave the last day in March IF you arrived Jan 1st

I think thats correct but of course they can alter the rules as there has been talk of them reducing the 60 day visa exempt to 30

I strongly agree with Wayne

and I agree to disagree, because the 2nd visa-exempt entry and the extensions cannot be guaranteed.
@Andrew *******
and the more, should the visa-exempt stay permit get reduced from 60 days back to 30 days, then Wayne's proposal is a train wreck in the making

how recently? We are hearing reports that you get pulled aside for questioning when trying a second visa-exempt entry within a short period . . matter of fact, the recent stamp history in your passport gets checked, and if the officer comes to the conclusion that you are abusing the visa-exempt system, he will deny entry

the advice of the embassy was correct. Your travel plans will be best served on a multi entry 6-months Tourist Visa. I strongly advice to avoid entering visa-exempt two times
