How often can I enter Thailand on a visa exemption without raising concerns?

I just entered through Suvarnabhumi airport, longer queues for sure. I use visa exempt every month but never had any extensions and max stayed 4 to 12 days each time, and return back to my country. I had zero questions asked and was let through. This was my 12th Visa exempt this year. Never even asked for my return ticket, hotel or how much cash i had. Just biometric, photo and stamp the passport. Since there are many questions around this subject.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the experience of the user entering Thailand repeatedly on a visa exemption, highlighting no issues faced during immigration despite multiple entries within a year. The comments provide additional perspectives, reinforcing that genuine tourists who exit and return do not typically encounter problems, whereas those attempting to stay long-term on tourist visas may face scrutiny. The dialogue reflects common concerns about entry limits and the evolving stance of Thai immigration toward frequent visitors.

They are catering and indirectly saying they prefer tourists that spend more. They will have the least difficulties.

Remember that Chinese visitors did not yet return in full after Covid and they make up 35% of entries with the least problems with the law. Thai gdp dropped considerably with loss of this group so the new laws are not favorable to long term short visa persons who don’t spend and don’t pay tax on income like the DTV nomad can contribute in return for staying.

Illegal business that violate work rules and steal jobs is high on the list for prosecution and prohibition for return visa of any kind

yes its the people who stay for 60 days, get a 30 day extension and repeat. They are clearly staying fulltime and Thailand is sick of it. There are enough visa options, choose one.

In and out of Thailand regularly for just a few days is the perfect profile of a drug smuggler... 🤣.

this is a good post and many of my friends have 12 entries this year including November and December. However so many fear mongers and false info people saying max 2 visa exempt entries per year. Really tired of this nonsense.

not accurate.

2024 and 2025 145 days on METV. 10 min interragation.

Told not legal. Get a retirement and no visa run this year. In Aug 2025. Had to use safe entry after visa run.

I talked to a immigration officer and he said they are looking into those that use these 60 days visa exempt as a way to stay long term in Thailand and doing border runs.. if they see your travels are more in and out frequently and obviously a tourist they don’t mind! But he also said it’s up to the immigration officer to make that judgement and you might get refused next time

I am fortunate to have a sister in law, a lifetime higher up in the civil service anti-corruption agency in Chaing Mai. Her friends in government including in

immigration are all English speakers as well, and they have told me the purported aims of the new law are rooted in raising new revenue to replace China visitor losses since COVID and rid themselves illegal businesses violating labor and visa law and squeezing Thai jobs.

Regulating the boarder runners with long term stays on short visas is being eliminated with the discretion of the airport IO personnel.

Violence, crime and lawbreaking from visa holders is also bothersome and costs them excessively in police and judicial matters.

Collecting tax revenue from legal long term visa holders who are working digitally is viewed positively for a future state revenue and is being facilitated they hope.

i live here as well, but I never had the chance to be close friend to any officer although I speak Thai. It probably depends where you live in Thailand and/or have a Thai spouse

This post is so helpful 🌻 ! We plan to pop in and out for Christmas and new years & were anxious due to the several posts we saw online .

Having visited 3-4 times this year (all under 10 days ) , we were a bit uncertain , however

this post put my mind at ease 😊 THANK YOU for taking time out to put this piece of information across on this group !

No.the post should not make your mind at ease.

Every case is independent

Even the IO and his/her mood has its importance.

I still believe that how you present: clean with decent clothes etc factors into the IO decision to ask more questions to deny you or pass you in without comment.

Any comments or opinion?

i dont think so.. I was in queue for a total of 40mins, 20mins close by near the counters, I keept seeing around if anyone was denied, but couldn't see even 1, I could have my eyes on around 5 counters, irrespective of what anyone was wearing.

Thanks. I’m doing my own research.

My sister in law is a highly placed civil servant in Chiang Mai.

She informs me from her immigration sources of the overall Thai intent with the new changes is seeking to weed out and deny low spenders as much as IO can make that determination at airports.

The frequent boarder runners who abuse short term visas to stay longer are first on the list.

Then those who abuse rentals with 8 to a room in places like Pattaya or sleep on beach and spend little money.

The objective is revenue from tourism.

Troublemakers in the low budget hostel/hotels who cause trouble requiring police attention with excess drinking or fighting or abuse of prostitution trade are likely to be deported and denied future entry.

I advocated for a small $20 fee with the 60 day visa to raise money and leave the low spenders alone since they fill a niche for local low price lodging and food places.

Gaining tax revenue or banking deposits serves a goal for Thai govt also so that nomads that can earn and stay longer and pay tax are being courted.

Russian and Israelis and Indians operating illegal business against law and visa status are in for the biggest prosecution and tracking from immigration.

Just what I hear from Thai citizens with influence and ability to make decisions.

Not everyone will be happy.

Some will benefit and some will no longer be living long term cheaply in Thailand

just follow basics, keep your hotel bookings, return flight and about 20k thai baht with you, if single or 30k if family. There should be absolutely nothing to worry at all.
