Hey gang - headed to Penang soon for my 1 year multi-entry B visa. Just wondering how long the process takes and whether it is worth getting an agent to do it or not? Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The process for obtaining a 1-year multi-entry B visa in Penang typically takes about one day if all documents are in order, with applications made in the morning and visas received the next working afternoon. While some commenters suggest that agents can simplify the process—especially if you may run into issues or need assistance—others argue that if you have all the necessary documentation, you can manage without one. An agent may also be beneficial given the remote location of the embassy. The costs for using an agent can vary, and it's advised to check specific fees.

Last December, I went to Penang to get a Non Imm B / M as Managing Director of my own company. I had all documents needed and had planned on going myself to the Consulate. But woke up with an awful migraine headache. I went out into the hotel lobby, sat down - tried to do some last minute checking of the documents... Then I saw an Agent discussing a Visa situation with a lady. I immediately spoke to the Agent when he finished with the lady. I briefed him for 10 minutes turned over my docs and paid him. Then went back to bed and slept for 10 hours. I had not had a migraine headache for years. Must have been the long land travel. Bottomline - the Agents can be "The Ticket" when help is needed. Got my passport with Visa back the next afternoon.

1 year b visa is not easy. You need to be a shareholder of the company and the managing director. It needs to be written in your work permit

I was in Penang last week for a 3 month nonB visa. All papers were ok and I got the visa but the consulate refused to give my passport to Jim's people so I had to go there on my own to pick it up. No questions from the consulate officers at all but they wanted to see me in person...

it's the fee for SETV. Much higher for Non-B Multiple..

no, you would not have to go at all.Maybe google in advance in case there are any holidays when embassy is closed and if you can already find visa agent online.if not just ask around.should be 200 baht.

- so if you get an agent you don’t have to go to the embassy at all; they’ll come and meet you? That does sound appealing 😊

If you have all right documents ready, no need to use an agent.

Apply in the morning, receive next working day in the afternoon.

And usually for non-b, also multiple entry visa, agent set the fee much higher than for SETV. In Penang, standard agent fee for SETV is quite reasonable as someone wrote, but other types are not that cheap.
