I was in thailand with a single entry tourist visa. I used up all 90 days (overstayed 4) and am now in Koh Rong, Cambodia.

Does anyone know how long I must stay out of Thailand before I can re enter and get another SETV? I have a british passport.

I will be passing through the same border (Tran)

TIA

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user overstayed their single-entry tourist visa for 4 days and is currently in Cambodia. They seek advice on how long they need to stay out of Thailand before they can re-enter and obtain a new Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV). Community responses highlight that there is no official required duration for staying out, but suggest being prepared with proof of funds, onward travel, and lodging upon re-entry. There is also an option to apply for a tourist visa at a Thai consulate for safety.

I think we've taken this thread as far as we can constructively take it

There is no one on this group who can say with certainty how it will go for the O/P at the border when they go to stamp in.

All they can do is be prepared, and hope for the best (y)

We wish the O/P safe travels, we are done... ,,,

You can make an appointment at the Thai consulate and get a tourist visa to be safe.

, you can apply for an actual visa only through eVisa system. Not with an appointment for in-person application anymore

Doubtful you had a real tourist visa (that you bought from a thai consulate in another country before you came here) 😮

and

it's much more likely you just showed up here and were stamped in free for 60 days on the visa exempt entry program. <- which is not a tourist visa, not even a visa at all, just a free entry stamp for 60 days

There is no official amount of time you have to be out of the country before you can attempt to re-enter and get a new 60 day visa exempt entry. However if they think you're living here on free stamps they can question you on entry, ask for proof of funds, proof of onward travel (back to your country in 60 days) and proof of lodging.

All you can do is try to re-enter and see if you get in or not

The onward travel does not have to be to the home country.

it has to be what ever the immigration officer at passport control says it needs to be 😮

I have had reports of people standing at the stamp in counter be told by passport control that if they didn't show a ticket back to the country their passport is from within the days they would stamp in for they'd be denied entry.

Those people had to book flights back to their home country right then and there 😕

Now I will agree with you that at a land crossing it is highly unlikely IF a person is asked for onward travel that passport control would insist on return to country of origin

should be clear i dont live here as i have only visited once before and have an onward flight out of bangkok in 4 weeks

it's not IF you live here or not, it's IF the officers at passport control think you do 😮 they are the gate keepers

BUT

with that proof of onward travel in 4 weeks you should be okay at the border IF you're questioned (y)

Right and if all you were doing was trying to get a NEW 60 day free entry stamp you should have contracted with a service in your area to take you to the border and back because they have it set up that you get out/back the same day without any issue

That's why services cost much more than you doing it yourself 😕

As I said all you can do is try to come back in, you're not fooling anyone at passport control, they will know at the border you only went to Cambodia to come back to thailand on a new free 60 day entry stamp.

Sincerely good luck with it, that is NOT too hard core of a border crossing, and you should get back in without much issue
