Thinking of cutting out the middle man and just sending the monthly money to my wife. I have a lump sum for visa extension purposes. Anyone know how long a bank account can remain dormant before being closed/locked by the bank?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The duration a bank account can remain dormant before closure varies by bank. Some banks notify account holders about impending closure after 30 days of inactivity, while others may wait up to 6 months. It's essential to contact your specific bank for their policy to avoid jeopardizing your visa.
You said this "just sending the monthly money to my wife"

I don't have a DTV. Been here 20 years. I still have no idea what a DTV is. I maintain in excess of 800k. I did mention "lump sum" in the original post.
yes that's absolutely correct but as a holder of a DTV by lawyou need to advise Immi of changes to your circumstances.. if your account has ฿500k in thereunder you account is suspended you won't have access to the ฿500k. Thus my worry that your DTV will be cancelled. As I advisedkeepyour account active which will cost nothing in the transfers to another Thai account. That's my recommendation and if you wish to confirm with immi then call or visit them
i do something similar, send the money for all the bills and food to my girlfriend and then if we go out anywhere for food or drinks I cover that from the money I send to my account.

It will depend on the bank, when i dont use my account they send me a message saying "your account will be closed in 30 days if you dont make payments" or something like that. Phone the banks hot line they can tell you there policy
this is thier policy if a savings account remains inactive (no transactions) for more than 1 year and the balance falls below 2,000 THB, the bank will charge a monthly maintenance fee of 50 THB. This fee is deducted monthly until the balance reaches zero. Once the balance hits zero, if there have been no transactions for another 365 days (1 year), the bank will automatically close the account.
