TLDR : Answer Summary
The OP is inquiring about the timeframe for applying for an extension on their non-immigrant education visa. According to a comment, in Bangkok, one can apply for an extension as soon as 3 days before the visa expires. However, it’s suggested to monitor any potential changes to the rules before the expiration in September.
I'm going to close this down. I understand the OP has an extension of stay that needs to be renewed in September. AS OF RIGHT NOW, the soonest a person can get an extension of stay at Bangkok is 3 days before it is due. September is a long ways away, let's see what type of changes would be made between now and September before giving any advice.

Thank you very much! hopefully things will get better with COVID. Last year I managed to renew three weeks in advance but this year it would be easier for me to do it one or two months ahead
Still some time, end of September, but was planning a trip back to Europe so it would be good to have it before leaving in case re-entering becomes tricky

If you want an extension at the end of September, I think you should wait until early September at the earliest
