How does the border run process work for a multi-entry visa in Thailand?

I have a multi entry visa for 1 year. I have been to Thailand 🇹🇭 on many occasions including being assigned there for 3 years 1968-1970. However I have never done a boarder run.

Does the Thai immigration folks stamp you passport when you leave and then again when you return?

Can a border run be completed in one day?

Does it matter if I fly or use ground transportation?

If we travel to Loas will they allow entry on a USA passport without a visa?

I would like to know how it all works.

Thank you in advance for any information.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses how border runs work in Thailand for individuals with a multi-entry visa. It confirms that Thai immigration stamps passports upon departure and arrival. The user seeks clarification on whether a border run can be done in one day, if transportation method (flying vs. land) affects the process, and the visa requirements for entering Laos with a USA passport. Comments provide additional details on the type of visas and the stamping process.

You don't have a Non-O Visa then, you have a 12 month extension of stay

Loas will take a whole page of your passport annoyingly even if just entering for 15 minutes.

Is the eVisa not just a PDF like the Thai one so you only get your entry/exit stamps in your passport?

Yes it’s a pain when they do that it’s one of the reasons I applied for a new 48 page passport when I left the UK 👍

Which multiple entry visa do you have? The non-OA retirement visa from your home country? Or the non-O married to Thai visa?

then you have to leave every 90 days. Each time you enter until the end date on your visa you'll be stamped in for 90 days, even if you enter on the last day. One of your entries you can also apply for the 60 day visiting Thai family extension near the end of your 90 days.

You can leave and immediately return as long as you stamp out of Thailand, stamp into another country and stamp back into Thailand.

You can get Visa on arrival at Laos and you can also apply for visa on arrival online for Laos. Land and air works the same for re-entering Thailand.

the visa is valid for a year where you can enter Thailand using the visa. But there is a maximum stay of 90 days per stamp.

If you time it right and make your last entry on the final days of the visa validity you can actually get almost 15 months of stay in Thailand on that same visa. (Initial entry and then Exit and reentry every 90 days - 4 times = 450 days)
