Hello everyone, I have a question:

we are going on a world trip (in Asia) in early September and eventually want to settle in Thailand with a retirement visa. I turn 50 in October and my wife turns 50 in May 2027. We have sufficient financial means to submit the application.

So we will not be in our country of origin (the Netherlands) at that time, but in another Asian country. What is the best way to approach this to obtain a non-0 visa (from which country?). And which forms is best to take with us from the Netherlands? We will probably no longer be registered in the Netherlands at that time and will not have a fixed address, as we will be traveling around.
Answer summary
The user is planning to apply for a Non-O retirement visa for Thailand while traveling in Asia. They will be in a different Asian country during their application period and are seeking advice on the best embassy to apply from and what documents to bring. Comments suggest applying at the Royal Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur due to their efficient process. It's noted that most Thai visa applications can now be done online, and that an income certificate from their home country (the Netherlands) may help in meeting the financial requirements needed for the visa.

Having used many Thai embassies across the region I highly recommend the Royal Thai embassy in Kuala Lumpur. They have a good system in place and the process is quick. The worst options are Cambodia, Laos and whatever the trade office in Taiwan.

Most all if not all visas for Thailand are now done online. Look up the Thai Embassy of the country you may be in at that time. An O visa once issued must be used within 90 and is good for 90 days. You need to open a Thai bank account and deposit the required ฿800,000 as it has to be in your new bank account for two months before you can apply for an extension of stay. Unless of course your country issues an income certificate that they guarantee and Thai immigration will accept. You may be able to add your wife onto your O based on retirement as long as financial requirements are met. Have fun! Sounds like a great trip.

You can apply for the Non-O from any country that has the Thai Embassy / access to Thai Embassy website

Address can be drivers license or any evidence from where you are actually staying at the time
