How can I extend my 30-day visa exempt entry in Thailand when my bike is delayed at customs?

Re: extending my 30 day visa exempt entry for 30 more days. I entered Thailand without a ticket out, just explained I would ride my bike out. Everyone was fine with that then.

I was told by UPS I’d have my bike two weeks ago, but it is languishing in Bangkok customs. Now I have 9 days left on my visa.

What should I tell the folks at immigration? Should I buy a bus ticket out to show them? What if I just tell them what I just explained here?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking guidance on extending their 30-day visa exempt entry in Thailand, as their motorcycle is delayed at customs. Comments indicate that immigration is unlikely to request proof of onward travel for the extension process. It's recommended to apply for the extension at the immigration office without worrying about how you intend to leave the country.

Okay, first off you DON'T have ANY visa in your passport :O If you showed up here without having got a visa from a thai consulate before hand and were stamped in for 30 days you got in on what's called a 30 day visa exempt entry.

Now be that as it may; what ever you told the people at passport control when you stamped in was just b/s pleasantries :O and has nothing to do with anything.

IF they stamped you in on a 30 day visa exempt entry you can go to the immigration office where you are (which you conveniently left out) and get a 30 day extension for 1900baht.

They aren't going to ask for you proof of onward travel when you get the 30 day extension.

There is no reason to wait until the last day because they ADD the 30 day extension on to your existing expiration date.

I'd say follow the "KISS adage" <- Keep It Super Simple..

Immigration won't ask for a ticket out when you extend.

As for your bike, Thai customs are working out how many thousands of baht they are going to charge you on customs clearance charges, storage, VAT and Import duty.

They are nice like that 🤔

Immigration probably wont ask if your going to extend it at the office.

They won't ever care HOW you leave, but certainly WHEN!

Don't think they'll even ask why you want an extension, just get it done...

If you run into problems you could try to explain of course, but don't expect any sympathy - the rules are strict.
