Does a 10-year-old child of a DTV visa holder need a visa for homeschooling in Thailand?

Hello. If the parent has DTV, does the 10 year child need to apply for a visa being that they are homeschooled? I am hearing the child is fine to travel with the parent and will not need a visa until 13 years old.

TLDR : Answer Summary
In Thailand, while there are no enforcement or fines for children under the age of 15 who are overstaying a visa, each child is technically required to have their own visa. A 10-year-old child accompanying a parent with a DTV visa may not need a separate visa if they are homeschooling, but there are potential future implications for overstaying, such as being questioned during future visa applications or having issues with insurance companies. Additionally, at the age of 12, the child may qualify for an education visa for activities like language classes.

The child might not get fined but they can be stopped from entering next time. Insurance companies will also refuse any payments if someone is on an overstay as they are not in the country legally. Two things to consider. Why would anyone take those risks for 10k THB for 5 years?

Thanks. That was the point of the question being asked 😊

Anonymous participant The insurance risk is the big one for me. I remember a guy extended his travel insurance but he was on overstay when he crashed his bike. Insurance outright refused to pay and family had to setup a GoFundMe.

Anonymous participant That particular one stuck with me. Poor guy was in a bad way. Two years ago I was working in Thailand and had excellent company insurance as part of the benefits package. Fell in bathroom and broke my arm/ When in A&E the insurance company approved treatment. I had op and 3 night stay. Upon check-out insurance said not pay as pre-existing conditions. The injury had nothing to do with those conditions and I was covered anyway - it was excellent expensive cover and pre-existing covered as long as declared. Hospital told me to go home and they would sort it. Basically a long way of saying insurance will try anything not to pay. Not many Thai hospitals would have been so liberal about letting me go without payment and taking up my cause. Total bill was 980k THB but it was Bumrungrad.

Every passports need their own visa. I applied for my young kids dtv (paperwork is easier than main applicant).

Yes, some people choose not to get a long term visa for their kids as there are no fines etc however, they will be overstaying their tourist visa which may cause issues when they're adults applying for visas to other countries when asked "have you ever overstayed on a visa". Something to consider as the children might grow up and not know this, if their parents don't inform them

All foreigners require proper stamps/visas/extensions to be in the Kingdom legally.

However the loophole is that there is no enforcement against children.

No consequences till 15 years of age.

They are still considered overstay but no fines or bans.

So yes a child can remain with parents in Thailand without consequences.

Dtv visa, child under 18 goes as a dependant, needs their own visa application

At 12, can have an education visa (for thai classes, muay thai etc)

Edit**

My kids are 12 and 7, being homeschooled. Both needed their own dtv dependant visa.
