Do I need to show my re-entry permit when leaving Thailand or only when returning?

Mornin' all,

I've got a re-entry (single) permit. Do I need to show this to the Immigration Officer and get it stamped when leaving Suvarnabhumi Airport for the UK later in the month? Or is the re-entry permit stamped upon arrival back in Thailand?

Thanks very much for your help.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When leaving Thailand, you do not need to present your re-entry permit to the immigration officer. It is only required to be shown upon your return to Thailand, at which point it will be stamped. The permit is valid for a single entry, which means it can only be used once for re-entering Thailand.

TM8 is an reentry stamp

Looking at your stamps looks like you got this the same day as your extention and that the re-entry permit is valid for a full year as the dates tie in with your extention dates.

I assume that if you get one at any other time it's also valid for one year or does it only go to the extention date anyone know?

Been wondering how it all works because planning overseas visits takes a lot of time so interested to know how long these are valid for ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

, A re-entry permit doesn't have any fixed validity. It has the same expiry date with your current stamp whenever you apply for it.

A re-entry permit is to keep your current stamp (entry or extension) valid when you leave Thailand. It doesn't add any number of days to it.

Re-entry permit would be valid for one day if you apply for it one day before the current stamp validity, for example. Re-entry permit wouldn't be valid longer than the current stamp.

- thank you for clarifying it makes it much easier to plan an overseas holiday knowing I wondered how it all worked ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

I am currently waiting for my new extension stamp have to return 17th December. Once I have that I think I will go get one early in the new year and can then plan out a trip to a nearby country ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

, it's valid exactly as long as your current stay permit (entry/extension stamp).

if it's a single re-entry permit, it's valid for only one re-entry into Thailand.

It's stamped as used when you come back.

No it's for when come back, not when leaving. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Single means one use.

You don't need to show a re-entry permit when you leave Thailand. You show it to the immigration officer at passport control when you enter Thailand again.

Be sure to check your stamp before leaving the passport control desk if it has the same until-ate as your current extension.
