Do I need to maintain 400,000 baht in my bank account for my Non-O Family visa for the entire year?

Non-O Family (spouse) 12 month check-in Deposit.

My 12 extension documents were accepted today, I'll get the stamp in 3 weeks. My question is about the 400,000 baht in my bank account (90 day requirement), do I need to always have that amount in my account over the next 12 months? Or, just 60 days before my next application in 12 months?

Chat is telling me this, I'm not so sure (pasting the image instead of text so this doesn't become Chat gospel if it's not right).
Answer summary
The primary concern addressed is whether the 400,000 baht must remain in the applicant's bank account throughout the entirety of the 12 months for their Non-O visa extension, or just in the 60 days leading up to the next application. Several comments clarify that while it's prudent to keep the funds available at least two calendar months before submitting the next visa extension application, applicants often withdraw the money earlier and re-deposit it in time for the next extension. The discretion of immigration offices may vary, so it's advisable to consult with local immigration authorities.

Careful Immigration can ask to see 400K during 90-Day report. Depends upon the office/officer.

Hey, as a related question to this, does the money have to be sitting in an ordinary savings account, or could I put it into a term deposit so that it earns a bit of interest (and I don't accidently spend any of it)? Just having the money sitting there idle seems a bit of an opportunity lost to me.

I take mine out. Then deposit it back in 3 months before I go to renew. That way I have a one month buffer if anything goes wrong. And oh, you can apply for your renewal 45 days in advance too.

OP
I got off of FB and other forums for 10 years, I’ve returned out of necessity but I’m alway reluctant to participate.

Why? Because of this. People just want answers, I structured a direct and succinct question. This can be valuable information to those who come afterwards. There’s real value - which I believe the intent of this group was to address.

Credit and thanks to the moderator for answering the question as asked directly and without distraction or needless tangents (John).

For those trying to filter through the slop, the answer is - you can take the money out. It needs to be in place for the two months prior to your next 12 month extension.

This is why I despise the internet. let’s all try to just be helpful here. This was a one answer post.

You need to keep 400.000THB 2 months before application. You have a right to withdraw money after. It is not retirement visa.

Be aware that it's 2 calendar months, not 60 days.

I do take mine out usually but that’s the chance you take if it gets declined.

If you can leave it til approved then better.

Ask at your immigration office, some of them are more strict than others.

Just leave it in the bank all that time, no stress then

agreed. Really just wanted to know if it has to be in the account at all times. It appears not.

Pete Smith I would if I have to, but that's $500 USD in interest.

So you are saying they will move the money to their home country when not needed for bank interest rather than leave in in a Thai account where you earn little or nothing. It needs to be in Thailand for say 3 months minimum to be safe so it appears on the statements and counting transfer time. Let's say it is in your home country for 9 full months and you can get 4% interest. If I transfer 400,000 Baht today to the US today with Wise I am going to get 11,918.93 cents (assuming the receiving bank charges no fees. (11,918.93 X 4 %) * 9 /12 = 357.57 interest I will earn for the 9 months. Now I have 12,276 dollars in my foreign account. Now if I transfer this back to Thailand I will get roughly 408,000 baht. Of course I could get more if the rates have improved but I could also get way less if rates have declined. So in a perfect storm with no change in rates over 9 months I gain $276. If $276 dollars is worth enough , to go to all that trouble and risk not having the money at the time or not satisfying immigration that the money has come from the right place and been there for the right time then that's a bit of a worry. It's far easier to accept you "MAY" lose $276 and just put it in the account and leave it where it is and you are already prepared for renewal without ever worrying about money being there. What you can earn on $12K is really very little so if you have the means it is easier and wiser just to put the funds in place and leave them there. I

Mick LorI think you mean $300 a year for the next 20 years. It’s not hard to click a button. I trust myself to make the moves at right time. Nice math tho!

Truth is, my question was whether it needed to be at that level at all times. I think I have the answer.

Not in Thailand - no accounts offer such and if you send out the country you are subject to charges and exchange rate dips.

Pete Williams I think the simple act of moving it out to a better account in the States might save him upwards of $50 a month over the course of a year. Not a huge amount, but worth considering. That's about 1 massage a week! :-)

what are you planning to live on? You may as well just use it for your expenses rather than losing out on exchange rates, transfer fees etc

Pete Williams Right, that's why I'd rather click a button and send it back to my savings account in the US

You are currently on an under consideration period. I'd keep the money in the account until you get the actual extension stamped in your passport then you can do whatever you wish with it, just bring it back up to 400k baht again 2 months before applying for the next extension
