Do I need to leave Thailand the same day I purchase a re-entry permit for it to be valid?

Is there a certain amount of time you must leave Thailand after purchasing a re-entry permit in order for it to remain valid, please? I vaguely recall seeing that you must purchase it the same day you leave Thailand but I might be misremembering (the mind is a terrible thing ...) and now I cannot find relevant info. There's nothing on my old re-entry permit stamps that gives a clue about this.

I'd want to be able to leave Thailand about 4 days or so after I purchase the re-entry permit. (I realize this is an odd scenario.)

TLDR : Answer Summary
A re-entry permit in Thailand remains valid until your current visa stamp expires, regardless of when you purchase it. Therefore, you can buy the re-entry permit and leave Thailand up to 4 days later without any issue.

IF you look at your old re-entry permit you will see an issue date and a date it's valid until

That date (the one it's valid until) is the date your current stamp to stay in thailand expires (your extension stamp)

So no matter when you buy a re-entry permit it's always valid until the current stamp in your passport that let's you stay here expires

here's an example of a re-entry permit i got yesterday

as you can see it was issued Oct 6 but it is valid until April 5th 2024 <- the date my current extension stamp is good for

An extreme scenario for this permit: theoretically you could leave Thailand on April 5, 2024 and come back the same day (and no later, of course), correct?

and get stamped in for that ONE day ๐Ÿ˜• that'd be a fail any way you sliced it

you get stamped IN when you re-enter only until your current extension stamp expires.

Yeah, I know it's a silly example. Just wanted to make sure that I understood that the exit can happen anytime until the "Valid Until" date.

Technically that's correct
