Do I need to go through immigration for a layover in Singapore if I'm just connecting flights?

Hi there I am doing a there and back from Samui to Singapore all in the same day. I will have approximately 5 hours in between flights. I am sure other people will have done this too. Obviously no luggage. Does anybody know if I have to exit arrivals and then check in again or can I just stay this side of immigration? I am asking as I am wanting to book the lounge, but it seems pointless if I have to exit and then wait until 2 hours before my flight before I can access it. Many thanks.

When traveling from Samui to Singapore with a short layover before heading back on the same day, you do not need to exit arrivals if you are traveling with no luggage and have your boarding pass for the onward flight. Changi Airport allows transit passengers to remain in the departure area without having to go through immigration, making it convenient to enjoy the airport facilities, such as lounges, shops, and entertainment areas.

If you have your boarding card for your return flight and no luggage you can go directly to the departure gate.

Changi is a cool airport - book the lounge after youve explored the shops, cinema, butterfly zone, etc and had a snooze on the loungers, or watch football highlights on the big screen.

I always use lounges - except Changi.

Dont know about the exit/entry issue, but i never follow the 2 hour check in rule, unless its a very budget airline.  I always check in 3+ hours before.   Neurodivergent and can never be late.

I suppose it depends on who the airline is as to how early you can check in. I've certainly been to Singapore airport much earlier than two hours before checking in and then used the lounge. I used to fly to London on a Saturday night once a quarter from Singapore. I used to go early to watch the Premier League in the lounge while having a free drink and cocktails.

Singapore is a nice airport and you do not need to exit. They do not issue a stamp anyways in Singapore, it’s all scan there.

Lounge it!! Or look into the pool. Can rent time by the hour, has nice showers for afterwards also.
