Hi all! I’m all new to learning DTV. I hope you can help me with these questions ☺️
1) Is it a must to email to email the Thai embassy first before the application?
2) How soon should I start the process? I’m planning to go Feb 2026.
3) My partner (same sex) has a job offer in Thailand and we’re discussing if she can write a sponsorship letter instead of showing funds. Any experience on this?
4) Any suggestions for a country where I can apply given my situation?
5) Do I need to enroll for a soft power course every 6 months until the 5th year?
Thanks all!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking advice on applying for a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) for Thailand, specifically about whether to contact the Thai embassy before application, when to start the process for a planned trip in February 2026, and issues regarding financial sponsorship from a same-sex partner with a job offer in Thailand. Comments provide guidance that contacting the embassy may not be necessary as websites contain specific requirements, highlight the need for personal funds rather than sponsorship, and mention the importance of checking embassy-specific processes.
Your partner here on a Non-B visa for work is unlikely to be able to write a sponsorship letter for you to apply for a DTV. Best to have the money in the bank yourself, what else you will need will depend on whether you apply for soft power or workation. If you are officially married then you could apply for a Non-O visa as her dependant with no financial considerations. Check the embassy website you will apply through for their requirements, you don't need to email them
Without a formal marriage certificate she will not be able to financially sponsor your application. If having a job in Thailand she'll be on a type B visa, which doesn't have a financial requirement on the employee, only on the business itself. For your DTV you will need the bt500,000 equivalent in your personal bank account for, at most locations now, for 3-6 months. If you were officially married then a spouse visa would be a possibility, with no financial requirement.
