Hi all thanks for the add. A border question. If I’m arriving and departing Thailand by land, via Malaysia, do I still need proof of planned departure? Would a bus or train ticket do?! And I presume visa requirements are the same at a land border as at an airport?

TIA

TLDR : Answer Summary
When entering Thailand by land from Malaysia, you will still need to provide proof of onward travel, which can be a train or bus ticket. Although it is an official requirement, it is mentioned that immigration officials may not strictly enforce it. However, travelers should be aware that crossing into Thailand by land is limited to twice per calendar year.

The difference between a land border crossing and arriving by air is the 2 land border crossings per calendar year limit.

ALWAYS proof of leaving Thailand within the granted visa / visa excempt period, on tourist.

Always? Really?

Of course you have to prove, that you will comply with the agreement on length of stay you have been granted.

thanks. So if I’m leaving by land again a bus or train ticket for that date will be ok?

It is an official requirement, but immigrations couldn't care less. Coming by land there's also no carrier that could refuse you on the basis of some pre-check. And then if immigrations does check, you can indeed use a land travel booking as proof of onward travel.

Just keep in mind that you cannot enter Thailand by land more than twice per calendar year, regardless of how long you stay and if apparent intentions.

Proof for what purpose, Visa application, entry?
