TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, a 60-day tourist visa can be extended for an additional 30 days in Thailand, and the process is similar to that of the visa exemption extension. To apply for the extension, you need to visit the immigration office (such as division 1 in Bangkok) with the required paperwork, which includes your passport, relevant visa or entry stamps, a completed TM 7 form, a copy of the TM 30 notification, and a passport-sized photo. The fee for the extension is 1,900 THB.

Perhaps they should read their local Thai Embassy website for visa information. The information is all there when they applied - it's still there now.
But for ease of reference a 60 day tourist visa can be extended once by another 30 days.

I went to division 1 in Bangkok with relevant paperwork, paid 1900 baht and got the extension to my TR60.
