TLDR : Answer Summary
ED visas can be renewed for 12-14 months if you switch to a different course of study, but it's not indefinite. Marriage visas allow for annual renewals through an Extension of Stay as long as you maintain your marital status.

If you have a Visa based on marriage to a Thai National you can apply for an Extension of Stay, you will get 1 year of stay and before this year ends you apply again.

ED visas are limited to 12-14 months, but you can then get another ED visa as long as you are studying something different. But it is not something you can do for the rest of your life, it could get you a few years here though.

if you are enrolled in a recognized college and progressing toward a 4 year degree you are entitled to a legitimate ED visa.

The Thai Elite Visa is the best option to stay 5 or more years, if you younger than 50 years of age or not married to a Thai National.

: As far as ED visas go, people will learn Thai the first year, maybe take a self defense course in Chiang Mai for a 2nd year long ED visa, then you could take a Chinese language course for another year. I've heard of ED visas for Muay Thai and cooking, so it could work I suppose..
