A friend is changing her tourist visa to a Non Imm "B" visa in Thailand. All documents have been submitted and it's now under the "14 days consideration" period. Immigration stamped July 30 as the day to come back and pick up her new visa. That is also the last day of her tourist visa. Friday, July 27 is a buddhist holiday. Monday, July 30 is the observance of the King's birthday. Question: Because of the holidays, do you think the visa might be able to be picked up on Thursday, July 26th? Or if she goes on Tuesday the 31st, will she be charged with overstaying her tourist visa by 1 day?

We will call immigration to double check, but would like any input if someone has been in a situation like this before. Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
A friend in Thailand is transitioning from a tourist visa to a Non Immigrant 'B' visa and is unsure about the timing for picking it up due to upcoming holidays. Since July 30 is the last day of her tourist visa and also when she's supposed to retrieve her new visa, she seeks advice on whether she can collect it on July 26, considering that the 30th is a holiday. There are concerns about potential overstaying if she goes on the 31st.

May I know where is your friend changing her visa into Non B? At the local immigration In Thailand? I’m in the same situation.

Yes, at our local immigration in Ratchaburi. There's more paperwork involved than doing it outside of the country. You need a police check, original degree and transcript authenticated at your embassy then certified at the Ministry of Labour, a letter from your local education office (which itself requires a large collection of paperwork detailing all sorts information from your employer - school licence, tax information, copy of director's personal ID, teaching schedule, etc...), at least 15 days left on your tourist visa, along with other supporting documents. You can get a checklist from immigration and your local education office for all of this, but unless your employer is super competent, it can be difficult.

Best is to call or visit on July 26th. When the stamp "Under Consideration" is put in the passport there is no fine for overstay if it took longer for the papers to get ready.

That IS a good question. I think the only way you're really gonna know what to do is to go out there ahead of time and see what date your paperwork will really be back.
