ORIGINAL POSTER
Hello! So glad I discovered this page. I’m a Canadian teacher who has been offered a job in Thailand. I did not being my original degrees, but I have have clear scanned copies of transcripts from two different universities, and I am registered with the Ontario College of Teacher. My name can be searched on their website. Is there somewhere here that will notarize a scanned copy? Will the Thai government accept that? There is a postal strike in Canada so that complicated things even more.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Canadian teacher moving to Thailand is seeking advice on whether notarized scanned copies of their university transcripts will be accepted by the Thai government, given they do not have their original degrees due to a postal strike in Canada. Comments from the community suggest using services like FedEx or DHL for document delivery and highlight that notaries typically need to see original documents for authentication. It is advised to consult the school's HR for specific requirements.

I was a notary for many years in the US. We did not authenticate documents. The notarization only meant that the signature on the document was signed in person and that said person presented legal identification.

How did you become a teacher for Thailand? I have 25 years teaching experience in California and planning to retire at 60 , 2 years from now, if not sooner, and would like to do something productive…

it won't be easy finding a job though, being 60 or more. 60 is the forced retirement age for Thai teachers. That rule doesn't apply to foreign teachers, but, they are rarely interested in hiring someone over 60, unless you already have history with them, or offer to work for free or something.

It's not easy but possible, I was teaching until I was 66.

As a foreigner, you need three things to legally work as a teacher in Thailand.

1. You need a visa that allows work (non B or non O based on kids/marriage as examples).

2. A work permit.

3. A teaching license.

You need as a minimum to hold a bachelor's degree, in any field.

You can transfer your existing license from California.

You would need notarized and legalized copies (and originals) of all documents, including diploma and transcript of your highest education and your teaching license if applicable.

I think best people to ask and for help is the HR of your school in Thai. I worked for many schools in Thai as business trip…know these very well.

Speaking from my experience in Thailand (and other countries), the notary must see the original document to confirm authenticity.

yes. That's the whole point of notarized copies. If they can't see both copies and originals, how can they vouch for accuracy?

no fooling Tom, but you know there is always some know-it-all who would argue otherwise 555

FedEx do a super effective 48hour service to Thailand. Get them , and some notarized copies, sent to you that easy.
