Can I switch from a Thai retirement visa to another visa type and then back again?

I've searched FB, this page, and the Internet on information about shifting away and back again to a Thai retirement visa. Someone told me a couple years ago that once you switch from a retirement visa to anything else, you can never get another retirement visa later on. Is this true? Say I want to switch to an educational visa, or I get a job, or I want to do a start-up. Where can I go for more information? TIA for any info.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The common belief that switching from a Thai retirement visa to another visa type permanently disqualifies one from getting a retirement visa again is false. Community members have shared personal experiences indicating that it is possible to switch between different types of visas, including from retirement to educational or work permits, and then revert back to a retirement visa if conditions allow.

You have been incorrectly informed. 11 years ago I came to Thailand on a retirement visa from Australia. I lived here for a number of years on extensions of stay based on being over 50 years of age. A few years ago we purchased a home here and as a result when it was time to renew my extension I did not have the required 800,000 thb in the bank. So I successfully applied for an extension based on marriage. But the Immigration lady told me that I could not keep changing the reason for my extension and that in future I would have to continue applying for my extensions based on marriage. By the time my next extension was due my finances were in better shape and I applied for an extenion based on being over 50 years and it was approved.

there's no such thing as a website for immigration policies because every immigration office has their own rules and requirements and they change regularly.

You either need to ask a specific question on Facebook including what your current situation and visa or extension is, where you are and what you're trying to do through which immigration office, and/or you need to go to the immigration office and ask.
