TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about obtaining a DTV soft power visa through an artist residency in Chiang Mai. Comments suggest mixed experiences, with one mention of an artist being approved while selling online, another recommending contacting the embassy, and a third warning that engaging in any paid or unpaid work in Thailand could be seen as violating visa rules.

An artist selling her stuff online was approved.

I suspect that’d be toeing the line a bit too close to working in Thailand as the definition of work is quite broad and essentially doing anything with or without consideration for pay may be considered work.
