Can I have my items shipped to Thailand held by the shipping company until I clear quarantine?

I'm considering shipping a couple of small/medium boxes to Thailand before I leave the US. I plan on being in Thailand for quite a while and these are some of the last items from my life in the US.

Does anyone know if items shipped from another country can be held by the shipping company until they can be picked up after getting out of quarantine?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the challenges of shipping items to Thailand from the US, particularly relating to customs duties and the feasibility of having items held by shipping companies until the recipient can collect them after quarantine. Several commenters advise against shipping due to potential high import taxes, suggesting alternatives like paying for excess luggage or purchasing items in Thailand. It is noted that some shipping companies (UPS, FedEx) can hold packages until customs duties are paid, but this may not be the most cost-effective option.

Save your money - U likely can buy all of it here for pennies on the dollar. What U cannot buy here - U likely don't need. {Note: my daughter just sent me a small box - 12 ounces - from MO: cost was $38.56. Last Fall she sent a box via FEDEX - slightly heavier, less than a pound. It was $160 } Save your cash - U'll need it here !

You might have to pay import tax. Lie on the paperwork on the delivery docket on what is in the box and value. They will tax you high

Agree extra baggage is way to go!

Import tax will kill you and they don't care if it is used. Better to pay extra baggage fees.

Dont ship its cheaper to pay over on baggage. Customs will be the first f*ck u get in thailand if u ship....

I recommend you use a mail or freight forwarding company... Don't ship until you can collect yourself within a day of arrival

Yes, you can send things via UPS or Fedex. They'll sit in holding until you come and pay the customs duties they try and charge you.

Not sure of the time, but you should have at least 30 days.

Put in suit case and buy your clothes in Thailand

It's way cheaper to pay for extra luggage and or over weight luggage... Most airlines give a discount if you pay 24 hours before takeoff... To ship it is $120.00 + with the Post office for 12 pounds. we flew qatar this last trip in november and paid $200. for 50 pd extra bag and $50.00 for 20 extra to the original 50 pd bag.. If flying out of the US Lowe's home improvement has a 18x18x24 heavy duty box that we use instead of having a lot of luggage to keep up with... Just tape it well and it works great, then you do not have to worry about customs and taking anywhere from 2 weeks to who knows when to get your things...

My suggestion is to never ship anything to Thailand. Customs and duties are ransoms. They are some exemptions for retirement visas, but the rest of the time, not. But, you may be a lucky one.

it is OK to buy individual items online and pay import taxes, but I agree - to ship by boxes is insane, there will be potentially thousands dollars or even more of customs charges.

I relocated out here in 2019 for work and used a shipping company to move quite a lot of stuff. Paid nothing to get it out of port.

Thailand allow you ton ship household once if you reside over there duty free and without paying tax...

that would make sense although the non-household stuff was also fine, eg sports equipment. Either way, I'm not complaining!
