Does an Elite visa in Thailand allow shipping personal household items and a car without duty?

Planning on relocating to Thailand and would like to know if an Elite visa allows shipping personal household items (furniture, white goods, etc) to Thailand without duty? What about for a guardian visa linked to student visa? Any chance we can ship a car over without duty too?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation addresses whether an Elite visa or a Guardian visa permits shipping personal items and cars to Thailand without incurring duty. It clarifies that while a Guardian visa is valid for non-immigrant status, shipping personal belongings often incurs duties—demonstrated by examples of high taxes on imports. Additionally, the importation of used cars has been banned since 2019, making it impossible to ship cars duty-free. Overall, the consensus suggests it may be more economical to purchase goods locally.

You could chop your car in half and ship it in bits... save tax and rebuild it

Correct neighbors just imported a 20ft container and duty/taxes alone were 54,000B for personal goods.

Then they did something wrong as personal goods are exempt from import duty when shipped and arrive within the first 6 months of your relocation. Talking from personal experience a few years back. I doubt this rule has changed since.

no they are not exempt.

There are very few exemptions, mainly for Thais returning.

A guardian visa would work as it’s a non immigrant visa. However don’t believe all you read on official websites regarding what you can ship over without paying duty. You will be charged.

You won’t be shipping a car over. Thailand has banned the import of used cars since something like 2019.
