Hi, awaiting approval for LTR pensioner visa. Looks like it's taking longer than we first thought. Hopefully get it OK soon.

Does anyone know what duty and taxes are charged on shipping personal possessions to Thailand once a long term visa has been approved? I'm hoping to ship some belongings over but need to have an idea of costs.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The process of shipping personal possessions to Thailand after obtaining an LTR pensioner visa can involve various duties and taxes, which are assessed based on the new price of items and determined by the bill of lading. There is no standard figure for these costs, as they can vary widely depending on multiple factors, including the nature of the possessions being shipped. It has been noted that customs might levy duties even on clothing items, and there have been reports of informal payments (often referred to as 'tea money'). Individuals have shared experiences where clearing a container can cost around 50,000 baht. Before shipping, it's advisable to contact shipping companies for estimates and more specific guidance.

They even charged duty on their clothing.

We sold everything and started over.

TIA this is America, have death penalty, 6 times more incarceration than any western country, do not let women have the right to abortion and freedom of speech is super important but not on Twitter or of their social mediaā€™s. Cancel culture. No universal health care unlike any western countries and the right to bear arms is so important for the militiaā€¦thatā€™s America. TIT and TIA. Not sure which is best, but do not wish to debate, btw, French Canadian here and lived only 6 hours away by car from NYC. But thatā€™s two different universeā€¦.

Sadly there isnā€™t a set figure. Your belongings will be ā€œjudgedā€ by the bill of lading and assessed tax and import duty from that. Pluck a number seems to be the way they do it.

duties and taxes vary on the items being shipped but they are levied on the "new" price of these item.
