TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, it is possible to extend your visa, provided you qualify for an extension of stay by September 26. If you do not qualify, you can contact your embassy for a letter explaining your situation, which may allow for a temporary extension of 30 days at the discretion of the immigration office. However, there are no guarantees for an extension beyond September.

I'm closing comments. IF your embassy issues these letters, there is NO promises that another 30 days will be granted. I have not seen anyone get this extended into October, and it is not something I would assume would be granted.

According to the handout issued by the Thai immigration office, the answer is yes.

If you qualify for an extension of stay, get that extension of stay by September 26

If you do not qualify for an extension of stay, contact your embassy and request a letter explaining why you can't return. IF your embassy issues you the letter, then you'll take it to your local immigration office. They will review the letter, and *MAY* grant you an additional 30 days of amnesty. There is no promise you can stay another 30 days.

You qualify for the embassy letter by contacting your embassy and asking them for the requirements. Some issue them, some don't.
