Can I enter Thailand without a visa for 30 days, find a job for a work permit, and extend my stay if not employed?

Good day everyone. I am currently living in South Africa and I am planning to come to Thailand-Phuket soon.

A few questions: Will I be able to arrive without a Visa for the 30 days and then after that, get employed by a school to obtain my work permit?

Also, will I be able to extend my visa if I am not employed for the first 30 days of arrival?

In addition, can I still quarantine for the 14 days on arrival (as I am not vaccinated).

Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster inquires about entering Thailand without a visa, finding employment to obtain a work permit, extending their stay without employment, and quarantine requirements due to vaccination status. Responses clarify that travelers can enter without a visa for 45 days until September 30, extend their stay for tourism for an additional 30 days, and need specific qualifications to teach in Thailand. For quarantine, unvaccinated individuals must quarantine in designated facilities.

Legalise degree by foreign affairs and stamp by Thai Embassy in SA!

Take ORIGINAL document with you.

Will save you lots of time and money for when you want to apply for work permit here.

If you can find work a school before you leave you can apply for a better visa based on a work permit.

Contact schools and search for English teacher groups in Thailand.

>arrive without a Visa for the 30 days

On entry, visa exempt is now 45 days until September 30.

>Will I be able to arrive without a Visa for the 30 days and then after that, get employed by a school to obtain my work permit?

If you meet the qualifications for a Non-B inside Thailand, yes you can. To teach in Thailand at a government school, you *NEED*:

- A bachelors degree (may require certification from your country's embassy)

- A TOEIC of 600 points or more (South Africans are NOT considered native English speakers).

- IF it's for Bangkok, at least 15 days remaining on your existing "Admitted to" stamp.

>Also, will I be able to extend my visa if I am not employed for the first 30 days of arrival?

Yes. A person can get ONE 30 day extension of stay based on tourism.

>In addition, can I still quarantine for the 14 days on arrival

You will need to quarantine at an ASQ in Bangkok, or an ASLQ at Pattaya or Phuket.

IF you arrive BEFORE Sept 30th you'd get stamped in for 45 days on the visa exempt program <- that means showing up here without having bought a visa before hand and getting stamped in for free.

You could also get a 30 day extension on that entry at your immigration office for 1900baht

NOW whether you can come here that way, get thru quarantine, find a job, get the documents you need to turn in to the immigration office to get a 90 day Non-B visa before your stamps expires is totally between you and the employer you find willing to hire you.

It can be done, but you need to be talking to your employer about it.
