You can do a 90 day report up to 15 days early. I'd say just go as soon as you can and do your 90 day report AND apply for your extension too.
You don't lose any days going early for your extension, because they ADD the new year onto your current expiration date

usually it's the original Non-O visa, every yearly extension after that, your current entry stamp, and the TM.6 departure card.Ray *********
