TLDR : Answer Summary
You cannot choose a specific start date for your one-year visa extension. The extension will automatically begin from the date of your current visa stamp. When applying for the Non-O visa or any long-term extensions, it is essential to maintain the required amount (800k baht) in a Thai bank account for at least three months prior to applying. Your one-year extension will simply extend your stay based on your current visa validity.

It costs US ~ $26,000.00 to stay in thailand for 12 months?! am I reading this correctly? I just came back from Thailand and my passport was stamped for 3 months. that seems a bit outrageous for an extra nine months.

only if you are skirting the system does it cost that much. If you don’t deposit the appropriate amount in an account and you pay an agency to fund an account and make fake documents for you that’s what it cost for a 12 month extension. If you deposit the appropriate amount and do the extension yourself it cost 1900 baht.

I’ve read they are really cracking down on that sort of thing but no idea if that is true or working.

Ok, I re-read the post. Yes to get a proper extension for retirement you have to deposit 800K in a bank account. I did that and it stayed there for years. But then I switched visas and it’s no longer required.

thank you. I heard the same thing. There’s no new laws they’re just cracking down in the laws that they already have in place.

Basically, no. When I switched from work permit to marriage visa, I asked if the annual renewal date could be moved further away from the 9th January, as this restricted my Christmas holiday trips back to the UK. It was moved to 28th December! 😞

If you apply outside of Thailand ie in your own country you can apply in advance. If you’re applying in Thailand you only have the timeframe of your current visa.

When you apply for a Non-O visa you have 90 days to use it from the date of issue, when you enter Thailand you get stamped in for 90 days. Every 12 month extension you get will end on the same date as that original 90 day stamp, just moving forward a year each time

Michael Laws ok you asked about the date of application. You’ll need the money in Thai bank 3 months before you start the visa process. You’ll be fine it’s not that difficult. All the best

The only way is to start your application when you are ready to do so.

Enter Thailand 90 days before you want your 1 year extension to start.

This type of extension will always just be added to your current stay.

That depends on how you manipulate your 90-day entry once the visa has been issued to you.

Depending on the office you use you have up to 45 days from the expiry of your existing stamp to file for a year extension. Regardless of how early you file you will be given a year extension from the date of your current stamp.
