Hi everyone, I've had a retirement visa since 2023. Is it possible to change it to a permanent residency visa? (I hope I spelled that correctly.) How much does it cost and how difficult is it? Thanks for any advice.
Answer summary
A retirement visa in Thailand does not directly lead to permanent residency. To qualify for permanent residency, individuals typically need to have a valid work visa (Non-B), a work permit, valid tax payments, and meet minimum income requirements (BT 80,000 to BT 100,000 monthly). Additionally, those married to Thai nationals may have different income criteria (BT 40,000+) but must still apply under specific conditions. Even then, application approval is competitive and based on limited quotas.

I,m going to apply for a non o family visa what documents do I need.?
My understanding is that permanent residency in Thailand offers you few benefits. You still cannot own land and you still must report your address every 90 days.
Angelo Schneider spouse/family visa can also hold the work permit, not just non b. and the income requirement per month is 40k if you are married to a thai woman.
you need to of been working for a minimum of three years with relevant visa & work permit amongst other requirements more information can be found in this link
You must work legally, on a work permit, continuously for a minimum of three years, making at least bt80,000 a month, but now they want it above bt100,000 a month, and filing your Thai income tax. If you are married to a Thai, then the monthly minimum wage amount is at bt40,000+ a month. You can never qualify for permanent residency on a retirement extension of any kind. You must be legally working, paying your taxes in Thailand.
Elías Molina if a Foreign Wife Married to a Thai Husband, then no Thai Work Permit or income requirements for Thai PR or Thai Citizenship, but if a Foreign Husband or Spouse Married to a Thai Wife or Spouse, then definitely Thai Work Permit and income requirements for Thai PR, but, if not coming from a home country that does NOT allow for dual citizenship, then directly applying for Thai Citizenship is the better and cheaper option for those with Thai Spouse and coming from a country that allows dual citizenship
GreyElephant🐘 and speak fluent Thai, and be able to sing the Thai national anthem, and put yourself into the hugely long que whereby only about 200 applicants are approveded each November.....
