I'm flying to Thailand on Thursday morning on a METV with a return flight to the UK on 30th April 22. My original plan was to go and see my elderly sister in Perth WA for a week or so during this time and then return to Thailand. If things don't open up and I can't do the WA run then do I have an option to change my METV in order to stay in Thailand for the duration? Thanks for any advice.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is traveling to Thailand on a METV and is inquiring about options to stay longer in Thailand if their plans to visit Australia fall through. Responses indicate that while the METV allows for a maximum of 90 days in Thailand with extensions, it is possible to convert to a Non-O visa under certain conditions if the user meets the age and financial requirements.

well if the borders open up you can certainly use that METV just like before where you bounce out and back to get a new 60 day entry as long as the visa is valid for
Actually you could change the METV (multi-entry tourist visa) into a Non-O visa at the immigration office inside the country based on being over 50 as long as you have 800K baht in a thai bank account in your name only transferred in from abroad.
You can do that on ANY of the 60 day entry stamps you get comin' in on an METV. At most offices you need a minimum of 15 days left on your entry stamp to apply for the conversion of the tourist visa to a 90 day Non-O visa.
That'd be your only option for an in country conversion, and it's either that or you find a way to bounce out and back in to get another 60 days
