Hi I'm a US citizen planning to change my METV to a Non-Immigrant B visa at Chaengwattana and would appreciate any feedback:
1) At Chaengwattana, can I change to a 1-year multi entry non-immigrant b visa or just the 90-day single entry visa?
2) If just the 90-day single entry visa, how do I extend this for upwards of a year or more? Would I then have to go back to Chaengwattana to apply for a 1-year extension of stay permit? Does anyone have a link or know the process for this?
3) Once all above is finalized (hopefully without issue), would I still need to physically leave the country every 90 days or can I report at Chaengwattana with my new non-b visa and work permit?
Sorry if this is all over the place. Appreciate any advice and/or clarification.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A US citizen can change a METV to a Non-Immigrant B visa at Chaengwattana, but it will be a 90-day single entry visa. To extend beyond this period, one must apply for a 1-year Extension of Stay based on employment 45 days before the 90 days expire and needs a Re-Entry Permit for travel. Reporting every 90 days is necessary unless further arrangements for a work permit are made.

You can only change it into a Non Immigrant B visa without any entry as you already are inside Thailand. You will get 90 days of stay, if you wish to travel during these 90 days you need to buy a Re-Entry Permit. 45 days before the last day you can with all documents from your employer apply for a 1 year Extension of Stay based on working. Also than you need a Re-Entry permit to travel and keep that permitted to stay alive.
this is really helpful. Once on the 1-year extension of stay based on working, will I need to leave the country every 90 days (w/ a rentry permit) or will I just report at CW?
