Can I apply for a COVID-19 extension at Samut Prakan Immigration while on a tourist visa?

Hi

I am on a tourist visa and I've already extended once, that my initial 90 days is ending this week.

I would like to know that can I enjoy the Covid exemption (if I went the immigration this week)?

If so, can I do it in Samut Prakan Immigration?

(Sharing similar case from Samut Prakan is highly appreciated)

Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring if they can apply for a COVID-19 exemption extension at Samut Prakan Immigration Office before their tourist visa expires. They have already extended once and want to know the process and likelihood of approval, especially considering Samut Prakan's reputation for strict immigration practices. A commenter informs them that they can apply for a 60-day extension due to COVID-19, but approval is not guaranteed as it's at the officer's discretion.

Since your most recent visa was a tourist visa, you can apply for a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19

You will have to acquire this extension of stay at the immigration office where the TM30 was submitted by your property owner.

That is known for being an extremely hard nose, "happy to stamp no", immigration office. The 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 is an optional extension of stay, and the immigration officer does not need to issue it.

as my understanding and experience is when you book a hotel they file a tm.30 for you so you could go spend a day or two in a hotel near an immigration office you want to apply at and it should suffice

They *SHOULD* file a TM30; a lot of hotels aren't doing it, especially the hotels that are cheap ๐Ÿ™

Iโ€™ve only gone for 2 extensions, one last year and one this year and they have filed for me. But also a good and valid point for my suggestion, go stay at a nice place for a night.

I move around a lot but actually intentionally stay near an immigration I think I will have an easier and quicker time at when the time comes.

if you can share the hotel that worked for you, it will be much appreciated (if this doesn't conflict the group's rule.)

Iโ€™m in Surat thani, I try to avoid Bangkok during my extension/Covid extension. But maybe someone else can give you a suggestion, I think you can also ask to take a picture of the info you need for a tm.30 from the hotel

thank you. May I clarify the second part: Covid exemption is not via the immigration officer?
Benjamin ******
@Josiah ******
This is an optional extension of stay, and that means it's at the immigration officer's decision to grant it. That immigration office is known for not issuing those extensions unless a very good reason is given. When you apply for this extension of stay, include AT LEAST one of the following documents:

- Cancelled and rebooked airline tickets back to your home country

- A letter from your embassy saying you can not return to your country of passport.

Thanks for this point again. This is the case for Samut Prakan or for all the immigration?
Benjamin ******
@Josiah ******
Samut Prakan Immigration is known for being a very hard nose, happy to stamp no immigration office. There are 70+ immigration offices, each with their own policies.

my last query, my resident is in Samut Prakan province, can I apply the extension in the government complex (as some said it is for the Bangkok area). Thanks in advance.

@Josiah ******
No you can not. If you live in Samut Prakan, you must use that immigration office.
