US citizen; arriving for 2 weeks and going to CM. then leaving to head back to the US for 1 week.

then back to BKK for about 45 more days in thailand. i never go in/out frequently but considering visa runs are popular, i should have no problem here right? my bigger question is, immediately after arriving and getting the 30 day visa exemption, and i apply for the extension to have 60 days total? i'll be arriving in BKK with plans to go on quickly to KBV and down to koh lanta. i'll be arriving in BKK on a thursday at 12:35pm, wondering if i should try and get the extension right away, and do it there instead of krabi.

thoughts?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, a US citizen, plans to arrive in Bangkok for 30 days, with subsequent travel to Chiang Mai and Koh Lanta. They inquire about the possibility of applying for a 30-day visa extension upon arrival. Responses clarify that they can apply for the extension at any immigration office, but they should choose the location based on convenience and where they plan to stay. Additionally, it's noted that extensions can be processed in places like Krabi as well, depending on the user's itinerary.

You can get the extension at what ever immigration office serves the area where you're staying.

You're not gonna get the extension at Chaengwattana in Bangkok without using a bangkok address.

Maybe it's better to just go where ever it is you're going and get the extension from that immigration office. It's not like there's a gun to your head to get the extension the second you get here..

my reasoning for wanting to get it out of the way asap is i'm heading to koh lanta for the rest of the time, and don't want to take a trip back to krabi from lanta just to get the extension.

so i'll land my 2nd time, get a 30 day sticker, and can immediately head to an immigration office for extension? works for me. found this for krabi too - wondering which is less of a headache. seems that while BKK may take more of an effort to get around, i could be sleeping in koh lanta that night? else i might need to spend a night in krabi it seems before lanta.

you can apply for the 30 day extension at the thai immigration office in Bangkok (at the gov't complex at Chaengwattana Road) as soon as you want to. Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket Buriram and a few other offices let you do it when you have 45 days or less left on your stamp).
