Greetings, would appreciate advise on the following. Recently arrived, 16 April, as Visa Exempt with US passport which xpires 15 May. Looking to extend my stay beyond the 30 days, the additional 30 days. What would be best date to apply and what location to make the application. To note: this is my 2nd Visa Exempt entry. The previous entry was in February - March for 30 days.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A US passport holder who entered Thailand on a Visa Exempt status on April 16 is seeking advice on how to extend their stay beyond the initial 30-day allowance. It is recommended to apply for a 30-day tourism extension at a local immigration office, ideally within the week leading up to the expiration of the current visa. The Jomtien immigration office has specific preferences regarding the timing of applications, generally accepting applications when less than a week remains on the current stamp.

In Jomtien immigration they prefer that you apply for the 30 day extension during the week prior to your stamped in ending date.

You can go to your local Immigration office except for the Jomtien office anytime now because most IO allows you to apply for a 30days tourism extension when you have less than 30days with your stamp and your 30days extension will be added to your stamp (top-up). Jomtien and a few others accept when your stamp is less than around 1 week.

General information about tourism extension is here.
