TLDR : Answer Summary
It is not possible to convert a Visa on Arrival directly into a Non-B visa in Thailand. However, it is possible to change a Visa Exempt Entry to a Non-B visa, provided that all the requirements are met. Individuals should consult with their employer and the local Immigration Office for detailed guidance on this process.

If this helps at all , I just received a Non-B ( teaching ) from a covid extension ( original entry visa exempt )

For what purpose is the Non B?

Business or teaching ?

I guess you mean a 30 day Visa Exempt Entry and not the 15 day Visa on Arrival.

It is possible to convert to a Non Immigrant visa from a Visa Exempt Entry but you need to meet all requirements.

Please talk with the employer and the local Immigration Office to see it all can meet these requirements

what is a visa exempt entry visa?

you are from South Africa so you arrive as a visa exempt short stay tourist with 30 days entry into Thailand. Its not a visa on arrival. Visa exempt means exactly what it says - without a visa ;)

And you can extend it how many times?

once by 30 days at a cost of 1900 Baht from any immigration office. So total max stay is 60 days (30 days + 30 days extension allowed once only)

It is not a visa, it is a way to visit Thailand without buying a visa before you visit Thailand. On entry you get from the Immigration Officer a stamp in your passport with a 30 day Admitted to Stay.

Ah ok and it is possible to apply for a non-b within the country? All these visa changes got me confused.

There are no changes, so do not get confused. Talk with your employer and Immigration to see if all can meet the requirements.
