Hi all. I searched the files and maybe did not use the right search words so apologies if this has been answered before. Are the “self defense” visas only for men or are these an option for women as well? Thanks 🙏 ETA: Is there a list of legitimate schools that offer this? I came across a few but the mentioned teaching English as part of the deal which as I understand it is illegal on this visa and without a work permit.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The query seeks clarity on whether self defense visas in Thailand are exclusively available to men or if women can also apply. Responses in the comments indicate that self defense courses, including those leading to ED visas, are attended by both men and women. Specific schools, such as Hand To Hand Combat in Chiang Mai, are mentioned as offering gender-inclusive programs that support obtaining such visas.

and I think on that note, the O/P has enough information (and mis-information :O ) to either be thoroughly confused ;) OR to at least start researching schools..

Good Luck (y)

I have never heard of a school recognized by the Ministry of Education for that.. Doesn't mean there isn't one though

There are two Muay Thai schools I know of in Bangkok and I'm sure there are some down Phuket way too

There is a Ministry of Education approved self defense school in Chiang Mai run by a thai named Jet. They have a course that offers ED visa support.

I really did try to use the files before asking. I will contact the schools directly in regards to women.

If you find a school running a course approved by the ministry of education you can (with paperwork from the school) get an Ed Visa -

- language, diving, self defense to name a few.

I've never heard of schools refusing women for self defense courses (I'm sure it would have popped up in this grp).

In Chiang Mai there are schools offering an Ed visa for Muay Thai -

A very quick search just now turned up a school offering approved courses and Ed visa support.
