This is on the opening page of the main immigration office website in thailand. 

IF you are applying for ANY extension (from an entry stamp OR an extension) that expired from March 26th to Sept 26th the extension WILL be dated effective from the 27th of Sept.

DO NOT let an immigration officer tell you it starts from the date you apply it does not..
