What long-term visa options are available for German passport holders planning to stay in Thailand for 8-9 months?

Hello ,

I have a question 😊

My boyfriend and I are currently in Australia and are leaving the country after 1 year in February. We would like to go to Thailand afterwards and would like to stay there for at least 8 -9 months. We have already read up a lot about visas. We know that we have to leave the country after 90 days and then we can come back. Does anyone have experience with a visa that is valid for such a long time and know exactly how it works and could give us tips on exactly what kind of visa we need and where we can get it?

Thank you very much 😊

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquired about visa options for staying in Thailand for 8-9 months after leaving Australia. Community members suggested the Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) and discussed the limitations of a 60-day tourist visa that can be extended for another 30 days. The importance of knowing current immigration rules and the variability of visa approval was emphasized, especially for tourists aiming for long stays.

I don't believe there is any long term visa available to you as you are a German passport holder residing in Australia for travel and work purposes not even sure with your nationality status allows you to apply within Australia

60 day tourist visa for Thailand even if you can sometimes the thai authorities take a dim view with tourist attempting to stay long term on tourist visas and you maybe questioned about your number of entries don't be surprised if you are denied entry at some point entry to Thailand is never a guarantee it's all dependent on the IO infront of you at time of entry Chokh di

does Australia use the e-visa system? You need to apply from the country you are in

There is no possibility to stay there longer with a proper visa ?

what visa were you thinking about? There are various options to stay long term but they are not for tourists. You can return after you leave and stamp into another country, either by going to the Thai embassy for another tourist visa for another 60 day entry or without a visa for a 30 day entry, both of which can be extended by another 30 days. But after a couple of times you can run into problems with re-entering again

I am currently only in Australia, I come from Germany and have a German passport

sounds like you don't have resident status in Australia so the only visa you can apply for is a 60 day tourist visa which you will be able to extend inside Thailand for an additional 30 days then you will have to leave the country

Probably 60 days not 90, thats changed

Do you have residency in Australia. If so you can apply for the METV visa.

If you have Australian resident status you can apply for the METV in Australia and get almost nine months from the one visa with two strategic border bounces

Multiple Entry Tourist Visa

yes. This! You have to leave every sixty days if you don’t extend but it can come in handy. But since you are saying at least 8-9 months, check into the variety of NonO visas
