TLDR : Answer Summary
The change to the eVisa system on January 1st is expected to primarily impact countries transitioning to the eVisa system, while countries that already issue eVisas are likely to maintain their existing processing times. Reports indicate that processing times have improved at established and newly switched Thai embassies or consulates, with some locations aiming for a two-day approval process.

No changes at existing Thai E-Visa locations:

However, at both "longer established" Thai Embassies/Consulates issuing Thai E-Visa for years and "newer" Thai Embassies/Consulates that have switched over earlier this year to Thai E-Visa's, processing times have improved and shortened, as evidenced by quite a few actual reports by members in this Facebook Group lately....

The move to Evisa Jan 1 will only affect those making the change. Those already online will maintain their processing time as now. Taipei told me they hope to maintain a 2 day approval process when they move online.
