Will my DTV become invalid if I enter Thailand as crew and receive a visa exempt stamp?

I have a DTV but will be entering Thailand later this year for two days as maritime ship crew through Laem Chabang port and leaving through Koh Samui. In the past, when this happened before I had the DTV, immigration came onboard and just stamped passenger/crew passports with a 30/60 day visa exempt. The purser takes all the passports to a room on the ship and the authorities stamp them without guests or crew having to see the officers at all. Now, that I have the visa, will it get invalid, once they give me an exempt stamp? Or can I still use it afterwards?
Answer summary
The user inquires about entering Thailand as maritime crew with a DTV visa, specifically whether receiving a 30/60-day visa exemption stamp during this visit would invalidate their DTV visa. Multiple comments provide advice, highlighting that the DTV visa remains valid and can be used for future entries, but suggest that the user should be aware of specific immigration rules regarding entry stamps. The conversation touches on the complexities of visa rules for maritime workers and the need to present the correct documentation.

Unless you are only planning on staying for 60 days, Get them to correct the stamp ASAP

You can only have it corrected at your port of entry.

Anonymous participant 948 maybe I did not make it clear. I am working on the ship and we are only calling in Thailand for 48 hours. Itinerary with South Korea, China, Vietnam and Indonesia. It’s my job and has nothing to do with the DTV stays that I do on land in Thailand between contracts.

If you intend to enter as crew and leave again within
*****
days, I would just enter on the visa exempt. Then use the DTV next time when you intend to attend the cooking class and stay longer.

I entered on DTV one month after I entered on visa exempt, no issues.

I understand the uncertainty. As a sailor it's almost impossible to follow up on all the obligations of life.

Did you get your DTV with soft power? I am looking into options because yearly extensions may not work in my case

yes, soft power dtv. I also have a seamans book, but Thailand does not issue crew visa for us, they give us an exempt stamp

Anonymer Teilnehmer the Immigration officer who boards the ship does not have any access to the Immigration Central Computer (although I could be wrong and they carry a laptop from which they access all data, but they still would have to scan your passport and take your fingerprints) So, do as you were suggested: put a printed copy of your DTV visa document between the pages of your passport. This might ensure you to get stamped in correctly for 180 days. You just can't pick and choose any other visa or visa-exemption. If you have a valid Thai visa then you must use that to enter the country. You risk the DTV becoming invalid if you do not use it correctly upon entering Thailand

As Robert said put a printed copy of your DTV in the stamp page of your passport

but why? The intention for this entry is to enter as a crew member/seaman and not under the DTV for Muay Thai classes

Anonymous participant Agree with you.

LIfe becomes very confusing when an Immigration Officer needs to follow the rules of the country in stead of the rules of the visitor.

OP
DTV_BegPecker but it is not meant for this purpose. For other countries I have several visas and I tell the IO which one fits my visit. Why would they give me a DTV entry just because I have that visa, when I am here as a crew member this time. Confusing

If the stamp is NOT correct, you have to visit the Immigration and get it corrected.

The visa does not get invalid, but your admitted to stay stamp is incorrect.

To avoid, you could put a printed out copy of the DTV inside your passport.

Why is it incorrect, if he intend to stay less than

SunnyHamster3652 He has a visa, the stamp must be accoriding the rules of the correct visa.

His wish has NOTHING to do with the rules and regulations of the Thai Immigration.

SunnyHamster3652 Yep, the problem with you guys.

YOU THINK, but have no clue about real life.

I never mentioned that all can be read on the internet, I mentioned the two Government offices who set the rules.

I even wrote: " Sorry, but not everything, like work instructions of the Thai Immigration, are posted on internet.

Visit them and ask them if you could learn as I did."

AND you sill think I said something else.

LOL

There is nowhere on the sites you are referring to, where they mention that you are not allowed to enter on a visa exempt when you have a DTV. The way you act and get defensive like that, without providing anything concrete, tells me you are just talking nonsence what you think is the rule, but no official site say this.

@Robert ******
let’s keep it friendly on here. As a matter of fact a call to the ship agent confirmed that in my specific case I can enter either under visa exempt (if one cruise segment ends in Laem Chabang) and if not, I present my seaman’s book and ship crew ID with passport (and do NOT insert a printed DTV as suggested here). Then I will not get stamped at all but receive a shore pass to go out.

Do you mind enlighten us with a link to an official page, where they say you are not allowed to enter on visa exempt when you have a visa? Because I cannot find it and I don't believe it is true.
